If you can choose, take September. Highs average 22 °C, rain drops to about 51 mm, and you get 181 hours of sun. Harvest falls in autumn, and estates are at their busiest then; no official source publishes the 2026 date, so do not plan around a week.
Summer is the sunniest season, and July alone brings 251 hours of sun. It is also when the Foire aux Vins fills Colmar, from 31 July to 9 August 2026. Winter is dry but cold, with frost on about seventeen nights in January, and the villages fill for the Christmas markets from late November.

Best time of day for a wine tour
In summer, the morning. The Emblematic, both 4 Wonders days and the day from Basel start at 9:00am, and the Ophorus full day at 9:30am, so you are in the villages before the heat and the crowds. The Ophorus villages half day runs at 9:00am and at 2:00pm; one reviewer's advice is to take the morning run.
In winter, the afternoon works. The ICONICS half day leaves Rue Turenne at 1:45pm, when a December day is at its warmest, and brings you back to Colmar as the market lights come on. Winter hours at Haut-Kœnigsbourg close it for an hour at midday, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
Dressing for a day between cellars
Wear flat shoes with some grip, because the village lanes are cobbled and a wet cobble is the most likely way to spoil a day. Bring a layer for the cellars, which stay cool even in summer. In July and August, add a hat and water; there is little shade in a village square at 3:00pm.
